Wilderness [1]

September 2011 – North Island was ranked ninth overall in the World’s Top 100 destinations in Condé Nast Traveller’s (UK) Readers' Travel Awards 2011. It was also voted the second best Overseas Leisure Hotel in the Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean category, garnering a score of 97.56 out of 100.
In this, the 14th Readers’ Travel Awards, readers were asked to vote for their favourite travel experiences, from hotels to tour operators, islands to spas – in essence choosing the best that the travel world has to offer. Islands were judged on a number of criteria including: Beaches, Climate, Environmental Friendliness, Food, Hospitality, Scenery and Accommodation.
Wilderness and North Island are particularly pleased at Condé Nast Traveller’s statement that readers “reckoned North Island deserved a royal ace for environmental friendliness.” This indicates the incredible success of the “Noah’s Ark Project” on North Island, which sought to return the island to a pristine state in which indigenous species of the Seychelles could live and thrive. A project of this calibre has taken – and continues to take – many hours of hard work by our dedicated staff, and to have this important element acknowledged by discerning travellers is something to be immensely proud of.
